Our last blog spoke about our work experience student—Harvey! Harvey joined us in July to assist with CAD drawings and to learn from the already established engineering team here at LEADA. We were so impressed by Harvey’s optimism to learn and his keen interest in engineering.
Throughout his time with us, Harvey quickly adapted to the fast-paced environment, showing initiative and a willingness to take on new challenges. He asked insightful questions, contributed to real-world projects, and left a lasting impression on the team.
It’s always inspiring to see young talent eager to grow, and we’re proud to have played a part in Harvey’s early journey into engineering, so much so that Harvey has now joined the team at LEADA. Below is an update from Harvey himself on how he plans to juggle working life alongside his final year at university.
As I begin my final year, I’m excited to join LEADA Engineering as a part-time engineer. It’s a great opportunity to apply what I’ve learnt over the past three years, grow my skills, and gain first-hand experience in the engineering world. Over my time at university, I’ve been focused on bridging the gap between theory and practice, most notably through a year-long group project where we designed, developed, and manufactured a Biomimetic Propulsion System (Robotic Fish). Our team was awarded ‘Best Project of the Year’ and received the highest grade in the cohort, which reinforced the value of hard work, practical application, and teamwork.
On my first days here, I was excited. Being surrounded by people with so much experience is motivating, and while there’s still a lot I don’t know yet, I already feel really welcomed and supported. I’ve been introduced to new software and ways of organising and working that are completely new to me, and I’m eager to keep learning.
Balancing Work and Study
One of my biggest challenges will be managing my time. University life on top of engineering coursework is demanding, and now I’m adding work into the mix. But this is a great chance to develop discipline and time management that will benefit me both as a student and as an engineer later on in my career.
Looking Ahead
I’m excited to contribute wherever I can, learn from those around me, and continue growing professionally and academically. I hope this part-time experience not only shapes my career but also gives me a fresh perspective on my studies. The work so far has been both challenging and rewarding, and I’m learning a great deal in the process.
Current Work
I’m currently working on the design stage of a dual dosing container rated for two 3000 L tanks. The focus has been on creating a design that’s both practical and reliable, considering factors like material strength, design accuracy, and ease of use. It’s a challenging project, but a valuable opportunity to apply engineering principles to a real-world solution.
We are really confident that Harvey has a bright future ahead of him, and we look forward to seeing what is in store. Welcome to the team, Harvey!
