At LEADA Engineering, we’re proud to invest in talented people who share our passion for delivering high-quality work and continuously developing their skills.
A couple of months ago, we welcomed Joe and Curtis to the team, and they’ve both settled in brilliantly. Working on site at Caldervale WWTW, we caught up with them to find out more about their backgrounds, what attracted them to LEADA and what they enjoy most about life on site.
Meet Curtis
At 22 years old, Curtis has already built several years of experience within the electrical industry, having started straight after leaving school in 2021. Before joining LEADA, he worked as a self-employed subcontractor in the renewables sector, installing heat pumps and ventilation systems across the country.
Outside of work, family comes first.
“I spend most of my time with my little girl Vienna, and I also enjoy playing Sunday league football and getting off fishing when I get some free time.”
His interest in electrical engineering began during his final year at school.
“I took a real interest in how it all works and all the different things involved within the electrical industry.”
Curtis first heard about LEADA through a friend working for Yorkshire Water, who spoke highly of the business and the work we carry out.
Looking Ahead
Currently working as an electrician’s mate, Curtis enjoys every aspect of the role but is particularly interested in learning more about pumps and MCCs and understanding how they operate. His main ambition is to complete his apprenticeship and become a fully qualified electrician.
When asked who keeps everyone entertained on site, the answer came quickly:
“Joel!”
And the best brew?
“Adam.”
His advice to anyone starting out?
“Never give up and always believe in yourself.”
Meet Joe
Joe, 31, is a proud dad of two girls and has been with his fiancée for 14 years. Family is his biggest motivation and the driving force behind everything he does.
Before joining LEADA, Joe worked on the ECO4 government grant scheme, installing air source heat pumps across the UK and spending much of his time working away from home.
He was attracted to LEADA by the variety and complexity of the projects undertaken and the company’s organisation and professionalism.
“Seeing how well organised and set up the company is fills you with confidence that you’ll be respected and appreciated for the work you do.”
Life on site
Joe’s days typically begin with team discussions, reviewing RAMS, checking drawings and planning the day’s work before heading out onto site. Safety and preparation are key to ensuring every task is completed efficiently and safely.
He’s particularly interested in the wider water treatment processes and enjoys learning how the systems work beyond the lighting upgrades currently being carried out. Looking ahead, he would like to expand his knowledge in inspection and testing, as well as EV charging and solar installations.
According to Joe, there’s no standout “messiest” person on site because everyone works together to keep things clean and organised.
As for the best brew?
“Joel makes the best brew, as Adam just tips the sugar in and guesses how much you need!”
Outside of work, Joe enjoys spending time with his children, bike rides, golf and following Manchester United around the country.
The best advice he’s ever received?
“While you’re young, fit and healthy, achieve as much as possible because it will make your life easier when you get older.”
That advice inspired him to return to college at 24 and retrain as an electrician, a decision he’s never looked back on.
Building Careers at LEADA
Joe and Curtis have both become valued members of the team in a short space of time, bringing enthusiasm, willingness to learn and a strong work ethic to every project.
We’re delighted to have them on board and look forward to supporting them as they continue to develop their careers with LEADA Engineering.
